BECOME LIDA CERTIFIED

Long Island Doula Association (LIDA) certified doulas and childbirth educators practice in hospitals, homebirths, within a doula agency or as independent business owners. Enjoy the freedom of making your own schedule!

Becoming a Long Island Doula Association, Inc. (LIDA) doula or childbirth educator means you were trained, and worked hard to achieve certification. It means you are prepared to provide education, tools and support, physically and emotionally (non-medically) individuals through pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum.

WHAT IS A BIRTH DOULA?

A Birth Doula is a trained professional who assists the family before, during and immediately after the birth of their baby. They are trained professionals who provide continuous physical, emotional and educational support to parents before, during and shortly after childbirth to help them achieve a healthy, enjoyable birth experience.

WHAT IS A POST PARTUM DOULA?

Postpartum Doulas are trained professionals who assist a  family in the first days, weeks, and sometimes months after the birth or adoption of a baby. A postpartum doula provides the family with evidenced-based information on infant feeding, soothing methods, and basic newborn care. Some postpartum doulas also provide overnight support.

WHAT IS A CHILDBIRTH EDUCATOR?

A certified childbirth educator is trained to provide evidence based information and training to expectant parents to help them prepare for labor, birth and the postpartum period.
